Friend of Project Hospitality dies Richard E. Diamond, publisher of the Staten Island Advance and a friend of the poor through Project Hospitality, died Thursday, February 12th at his home in Staten Island of cancer. He was 71 years old. The Rev. Terry Troia attended the funeral service this morning at the Temple Israel Reformed Congregation in Randall Manor, Staten Island and was not available to lead preach here at New Utrecht today. Fr. Jack Ryan preached instead. Diamond was a recipient of two awards from Project Hospitality: the Rabbi Marcus Kramer Humanitarian Award in 1992 and the Eleanor Proske Award for Distinguished Service to the Poor in 2000.

Please help the day laborers by buttering rolls The next tentatively scheduled roll buttering will take place on Sunday, February 7th after service. The buttering rolls, to help the day laborers in Bensonhurst, takes place every other Sunday at the Parish House and is a joint project with Bay Ridge United Church. Pray for... Anna Schroeder, who is in the hospital; Fran Erickson, who slipped on ice and broke her toe and is recovering; the Rev. Bob Peterson, our organist, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease; Marion Hodgman, who had surgery; Eugene Ruotolo at Jewish Geriatric Center; Alice Hightower who is recuperating at home from surgery; Vivian Loew, wife of the pastor of the Chinese Christian Church, who died on Saturday, February 7th from cancer and Rose Lood. |
