Bob Buonvino, 2 others honored at brunch The Federation of Italian American Organizations (FIAO) held a brunch today honoring the Grand Marshal of the 22nd Annual Brooklyn Columbus Day Parade, Bob Buonvino, President of Friends of Historic New Utrecht. Two other people, City Councilmember Dominic Recchia and Nellie Bly amusement park owner Gena Romano, were also honored as Grand Marshals. Many thanks to all who attended the brunch! Cemetery damaged by effects of Isabel The New Utrecht Reformed Church Cemetery was damaged last week the effects of Hurricane Isabel with two trees down and some damage to the cemetery itself. The sidewalks at the perimeter of the cemetery was however, cleared of storm-related debris by a volunteer. A cemetery cleanup will take place on Saturday, October 18th. Please contact Friends of Historic New Utrecht for details. Balcony closed; sanctuary to also close The historic balcony of the New Utrecht Reformed Church sanctuary is closed because of repairs to the sanctuary. Very soon the sanctuary itself will also close as scaffolding is erected and the roof is being opened to make repairs; services will then be held in the Parish House. Please pray for its restoration. Our organ needs repair Please note that in addition to our sanctuary and bell tower needing repairs, our organ, installed in 1948, also needs repair. That is why our organist is at the piano these days. Please pray for its restoration. World Communion Sunday - feed the hungry Next Sunday is World Communion Sunday! Please bring a can of food for the hungry! Cans will go to the Brooklyn Council of Churches. Please help the day laborers by buttering rolls The next tentatively scheduled roll buttering will take place next Sunday, October 5th. The buttering rolls, to help the day laborers in Bensonhurst, takes place every other Sunday at the Parish House and is a joint project with Bay Ridge United Church. New
