Saturday, February 21st: Mardi Gras Parade
Join us for Mardi Gras Craft Carnival and Parade, Saturday, February 21st, 2004 from 1 PM - 3 PM in the Parish House. Open to all children 2-12 years of age! Donation appreciated but not necessary...everyone welcomed to celebrate the coming of Lent with us! We need volunteers for next week's Mardi Gras Kids Carnival! Please come at 11:30 AM ready, willing and able to help...and if you can, bring a friend! Let's prepare for Lent together!

Please help the Bensonhurst Volunteer Ambulance Service
Just as our church needs funds to repair the sanctuary, the Bensonhurst Volunteer Ambulance Service also needs funds.  New Utrecht Reformed Church is trying to raise $200 for BVAS. Donations of $5-10 are appreciated. Please see Deacon Rose Lood (or a consistory member) after next Sunday's service.

Thank you!
Thanks to all who made our Lincoln Day program a success! Thanks also to all who attended Vivian Loew's wake and funeral yesterday.

St. Valentine's Day

According to legend, St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14th, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine." Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emporer Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St. Valentine.
