Ash Wednesday: A Korean-English service
On Wednesday, February 25th the New Utrecht Reformed Church and the Mirral Church celebrated a joint Ash Wednesday service at the Parish House. Ministers from both congregations distributed ashes. This is the first time that the Mirral congregation celebrated an Ash Wednesday service. Coffee and doughnuts was served after service.

Organist's son a nominee at the Academy Awards
Bob Peterson, son of New Utrecht's organist, the Rev. Bob Peterson, was a nominee at Sunday's Academy Awards. Peterson, one of three screenwriters nominated for Best Original Screenplay for the movie "Finding Nemo," failed to win an Oscar; that went to Sofia Coppola for the movie "Lost in Translation." "Finding Nemo," however, did win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Had Peterson won, he would have thanked his father, who was in Southern California on Sunday and will undergo surgery this Thursday.

Please help the day laborers by buttering rolls
The next tentatively scheduled roll buttering will take place on Sunday, March 7th after service. The buttering rolls, to help the day laborers in Bensonhurst, takes place every other Sunday at the Parish House and is a joint project with Bay Ridge United Church.

Anna Schroeder, who is in the hospital;
Fran Erickson, who slipped on ice and broke her toe and is recovering;
the Rev. Bob Peterson, our organist, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease and will undergo surgery this Thursday;
Marion Hodgman, who had surgery;
Eugene Ruotolo at Jewish Geriatric Center and

Vivian Loew, wife of the pastor of the Chinese Christian Church, who died on Saturday, February 7th from cancer.
