Church to hold special collection for tsunami victims

New Utrecht Reformed Church will hold a special collection on Sunday, January 9 for the victims of last Sunday's tsunami that swept across 14 countries in Asia and Africa, killing (as of Sunday) 146,400, injuring 510,000 and displacing 3 to 5 million people. Donations will be sent to Reformed Church World Service, which, according to its website, "is responding quickly to the tragic tsunami that wreaked major destruction across eight countries in southern Asia and one country in Africa. RCWS is sending $10,000 to partner Church World Service (CWS) in response to the immediate needs and is focusing support for emergency response efforts in at least three of the most affected areas."

In addition to next Sunday's collection, the following resources are available to help the millions of victims of the tsunami, from RCA.ORG:

Please keep the people of these areas in your prayers. Contributions designated for Asian Tsunami may be sent to Reformed Church in America, P.O. Box 19381, Newark, NJ 07195-1938 or, in Canada, to Regional Synod of Canada, RR #4, Cambridge, ON N1R 5S5. To make a credit card donation (Visa or MasterCard), call the Michigan Regional Center at (800) 968-3943, ext. 210, or click on "Make a Donation."

Thank you!
Our thanks to Elder Louise Fabiszak, the Outreach Committee and the many, many members who made our Living Nativity come to life! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Our thanks also to Deacon Deborah Siciargo for helping the homeless and to Bill Nicotra for bringing toys to the homeless this Advent!

Thanks to the Thanksgiving volunteers!
Michelle Paredies, coordinator of the Thanksgiving Dinner, gave a special thanks to all the volunteers at service on Sunday, November 28. She said that 18 people, including several Boy Scouts, participated and that all the volunteers enjoyed contributing or serving at the dinner on Wednesday, November 24 at Project Hospitality's two locations on Staten Island.
