Church held a special collection for tsunami victims New Utrecht Reformed Church held a special collection on Sunday, January 9 for the victims of last Sunday's tsunami that swept across 14 countries in Asia and Africa, killing (minimum confirmed figures, as of Sunday) 150,475, missing 43,349, injuring 124,487 and displacing 2,140,892 people. Donations will be sent to Reformed Church World Service, which, according to its website, "is sending an additional $50,000 to support the Asian tsunami emergency relief and recovery efforts. The money will be used by partner Church World Service (CWS) to send one of twelve planned emergency air shipments from New Windsor, Maryland. The cost of each large shipment is nearly $50,000. This amount covers expenses related to air transport and packing for donated canned meat, health kits, blankets, and family tents. It also includes purchase of medicine boxes that contain enough medicine to serve 1,000 adults and children for two to three months." In addition to Sunday's collection, the following resources are available to help the millions of victims of the tsunami, from RCA.ORG:
